She married Russell S. King on Oct. 7, 1972. Ruth graduated from Sandwich High School in 1945. She worked in various businesses in the Plano and Sandwich area during her life. Ruth was a member of the United Church of Sandwich and was active in the United Methodist Women's Group, Hope Circle and many other various activities within the church.
Ruth enjoyed gardening. She took great pride in making sure her flower gardens and cherished flowers were cared for so others could enjoy their beauty. Ruth's greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by one daughter Patricia Gunnerson of Yorkville; one son William (Linda) King of Sandwich; five grandchildren Elizabeth (Matthew) Johnson of Yorkville, Michael (Julie) Knauer of Seattle WA., Sarah (John) Cady of Sandwich, Amy (Patrick) Burns of Sandwich, Nathan (Ashton) King of Sandwich; fifteen great grandchildren, Rachael and Ryan Cyr of Yorkville, Jacob, Chloe, and Minah Johnson of Yorkville, Caullin and Bailey Burns of Sandwich, Carter, Abigail, Izabelle and Elle Cady of Sandwich, Abigail and Christopher Knauer of Seattle, WA., and Samuel and Jackson (due in May) King of Sandwich; many nieces and nephews and her grandchildren in name who spent many overnights with Grandma Ruth and Grandpa Russ.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Pearl and Frank Ropp; her husband Russell S. King on June 5, 2009; three sisters Ethel Mae Lyman, Dorothy E. Davis and Myrtle L. "Peg" Wright; four brothers Frank Jr., Frank "Bud", Dean E. and Donald L. Ropp. The family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the United Church of Sandwich, 512 E. Lions Road Sandwich, IL with Pastor Steve Mindrup officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Sandwich, Il. Pallbearers will be her son, William King and grandsons Michael Knauer, Nathan King, Patrick Burns, John Cady, and Matthew Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons, Ryan Cyr, Caullin Burns, Jacob Johnson, and Carter Cady.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sandwich Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 1486 713 S. Main Street, Sandwich, IL or Fox Valley Older Adult Services, 1406 Suydam Rd., Sandwich, IL.
