Ruthie was born in Streetman, Texas, to the late Hugh and Ethel Green Dunlap. She lived most of her life in Teague where she graduated with the Teague High School, class of 1950. Following graduation, she began working for the Department of Agriculture in Fairfield and remained until her retirement. Ruthie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Teague. For numerous years, she served as a delegate to the state and national conventions of Texas Farm Bureau. Ruthie also served on the Greenwood Cemetery Board for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry Smith; and brothers: Claudie Dunlap, Rayford Dunlap, and Hugh Dunlap, Jr.
Her last years were spent living in Grandbury with her son, Mike Askew and wife, Lois; and is also survived by a grandson, Garrett Askew and wife, Courtney; a granddaughter, Megan Askew; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. D22
