Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, by Father John R. Flaherty. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the church with a vigil service and sharing of memories at 3:30. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Lisbon. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Survivors include her mother, Julann of Lisbon; sisters, Lisa (Sean) Bruce of Naperville, Illinois, and Gina Krogmann of Lisbon; brother, Jeff (Tracie) Clark of Lisbon; nieces and nephew, Sophia, Claire and Amelia Bruce, Grace, Cole, Ella and Addie Clark, and Maeve Krogmann; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.
Kara was born April 23, 1982, in Cedar Rapids, to Warren and Julann (Werning) Clark. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 2000, then from the University of Iowa School of Engineering in 2004.
She worked for Unilever in Chicago and New York City and GAP Corporation in San Francisco.
She loved to travel and watch football—especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and San Francisco 49ers.
Most importantly, Kara loved her beloved friends and family—her nieces and nephew meant the world to her. She was loved by everyone she met, and always had a smile.
She was preceded in death by her father, Warren; grandparents, Larry and Maxine Werning, Velma and Oliver Clark; aunt, Annette Main; and uncle, Harold Clark.
Kara was an inspiration to all and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. “You never know how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have.”
A special thanks to Hospice of Mercy and Loyola University and Medical Center for the gracious care they gave to Kara during her illness.
