John Morford, was the son of Sidney and Catherine Morford, was born April 13. 1845. Died at his home in Broken Bow December 18, 1935. Mr. Morford was the eldest of eleven children. At an early age the family moved to Illinois where he grew to manhood. On March 4, 1865, he enlisted in Company G 15.th regiment Illinois infantry and served until the close of the war and was honorably discharged Sept. 15, 1865.
He came to Thayer County, Nebraska in the early seventies. On Sept. 17, 1876 he married Miss Martha E. Province. To this union five children were born, one child died on infancy. In 1886 Mr. Morford came to Custer County where he has since lived. He was a member of the Methodist Church for more than fifty years.
He is survived by his wife, four children; Mrs. Edna Carroll, Of Hudson, Wy., Mrs. Edith Hovey, of Brinnon, Wash., Mrs. Ora Price of Callaway, Neb, Perry J Morford of Broken Bow.
