Obituary for Julia H. Davis

Julia H. Davis, 95, of Oskaloosa, entered into the presence of her Lord on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was born December 12, 1924, in Perry, Iowa, the daughter of Reese and Evelyn Ellett. She grew up in Perry, Iowa where she met the love of her life, Howard E. Davis. They were married on January 17, 1943. To this union, two children were born, Stanley E. (Ed) Davis and Laurie Davis.

Julia was a stay-at-home Mom for many years. When she did go to work it was for Montgomery Ward, Public school hot lunch program, Don's TV and Alco. She enjoyed cooking, baking and especially making candy for the holidays. (Your divinity, fudge and peanut brittle were delicious Mom). In 1985 Howard and Julia moved to New Sharon, Iowa to be closer to family. She loved her family, singing and teaching Sunday School.

Her family includes her son Ed and wife Margaret of Colorado Springs, Colorado, their children and grandchildren: Keith and Bren Davis, Ronald, Matthew, Hailey and Kaylee. Kirstin and Daniel Kleinheksel, Zachary and Katie all of Colorado Springs, Korene and Mario Estrada, Marissa and Megan of Rancho Cuca Monga, California. Her daughter Laurie McMahan and her sons, their wives and children: Ryan and Sara McMahan and Kailey of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Raun and Crystal McMahan, Autumn, Austin, Daisy, Meara and Thea of Oskaloosa. One sister, Joanne Blankenfeld of Grinnell, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband of over 68 years, her parents, a son-in-law, Larry McMahan and four siblings: Clive and Del Ellett, Genevieve Needham and Mary Jane Rickard.

Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery at Perry, Iowa on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:00 am. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event. Visitation will begin Thursday November 5, 2020, after 2:00 PM in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4:00 – 6:00 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives. The family has planned a Memorial Service to be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Cox officiating. Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
