Motion Picture Screenwriter. He received an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay for "Kiss of the Spider Woman" in 1985. During the late 1960s, he taught American Literature while living in Japan and developed an interest in different cultures. His other notable scripts include "The Yakuza" (1974), "Blue Collar" (1978), "Old Boyfriends", and "Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters" (1985). He also directed the film "Naked Tango" (1991). He was the brother of writer-director Paul Schrader.
