After her death in 1832 he married his second wife Harriet De Jean, by whom he fatherd many more children.
For several years he rented and managed a hotel. Afterwards he had a grocery store and was one of the first to have a meat market in Jamestown. When he was a young man he was a captain in the militia and was a natural leader in all enterprises.
