Orchestra Leader. Born in Marsellies, France, he conducted his first popular music band during World War II. In 1950 he became the musical director for many great French singers, including Maurice Chevalier. His orchestra made many records and in 1967 they recorded an instrumental version of "Love is Blue", which became a Number One hit. Mauriat led his orchestra on world tours until his retirement in 1998.
