Son of Steven Clinton Vaughan and Amanda Smith Napier. Married first Eva McCarty, who died in 1897 and is buried at Choate Prairie Cemetery near Indianola, OK. He then married Leona Arden Waller Feb. 23, 1898. She died in 1919. After her death he married Florence Bell Lytle, who is buried at the Quinton Cemetery in Pittsburg County.

J. L. Vaughan, of Ulan, passed away last night after a short illness. He had resided in this vicinity for the past 50 years. Mr. Vaughan was born July 19, 1866 in Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florance Vaughan, three daughters and four sons. These are, Mrs. Mattie Smith, of McAlester, Mrs. Lou White, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Nicie Roth, Bakersfield, Calif., Willie Vaughan, Wewoka, S. L. Vaughan, McAlester, Charlie Vaughan and Dewey Vaughan, both of Ulan. There are also several grandchildren. Funeral arrangements, not yet complete, will be announced later by Humphrey's who have charge.

Funeral services were held at the Ulan school Sunday afernoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Reece Kerns officiating. Burial was in the Ulan cemetery under the direction of Humphrey funeral home.
