Christi Denise Jones, 40, a loving wife, mother, daughter, friend, and passionate supporter of countless service members in need, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014.
Christi was born on August 28, 1974 in Warner Robbins, GA to Dorothy Miller and William Broadnax, their only child. Christi graduated from Stratford HS in Goose Creek, South Carolina. She met and married the love of her life, Scott Jones on June 6, 1993 in Charleston, South Carolina. Together they had four children; Lexi (21), Sarah (predeceased), Brandon (17) and Matthew (14), their pride and joy. As a Navy family they lived throughout the US: Charleston, SC, Norfolk, VA, San Diego, CA, Jacksonville, SC, Honolulu, HI, and have resided in Chesapeake, VA since 2009.
Christi earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. She dedicated her time to supporting Navy families both as an Ombudsman and as a government contractor at Norfolk's Fleet and Family Support Center where she worked as a Navy Exceptional Family Member Program Liaison.
Christi's friendly and gentle spirit brought comfort and inspired resilience in hundreds of Navy Service members and their families with special needs. Christi received numerous awards and recognitions for her tireless work including Hawaii's Navy Ombudsman of the year in 2009.
Christi was also Beach FC Director of Volunteerism where she took a small program and made it into the most successful fundraising entity in Hampton Roads. She enjoyed soccer, traveling, photography, running 5k's, fitness, the beach, and spending quality time with her family, and friends.
She is survived by Belle Miller (grandmother), Alan and Gloria Jones (parents-in-law), Blake and Alicia Jones, and their daughter Emily (Brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and niece).
Christi will be deeply missed but her witty, infectious humor and compassionate smile will live on in our thoughts and hearts forever.
The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 East Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502, on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 6 - 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at 1:30 pm.
