Shawnee resident Charles Robert Hoyle, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 29, at a local nursing home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Norman to Charles R. Hoyle and Minnie Elizabeth Hoyle.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1937. On Feb. 6, 1942, he married Betty Jeanne Maxey.

Mr. Hoyle served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1963 as a Lt. Colonel. He then received a bachelors degree from OBU in 1965 and taught chemistry and math at Shawnee High School for 19 years.

Mr. Hoyle was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Elks Lodge and the Men's Senior Golf League.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; one brother, William Hoyle; two brothers-in-law, Dallas Dennis Thomas and Harry S. Richard; and one sister-in-law, Helen Louise Richard.

Survivors include two sons, Charles R. Hoyle III of El Reno and Lee Hoyle and wife, Maggie, of Shawnee; one grandson, Jacob Hoyle of Shawnee; one sister, Lorraine Lewis and husband, Art, of Ventura, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Tokee Richard of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Dr. Larry Adams officiating.

Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.
