Debbie Leann (Kunz) Tucker was born Jan. 26, 1957, in Spirit Lake, Idaho, to Samuel and Irene (Wegner) Kunz. Debbie passed away surrounded by family at Hospice House of North Idaho in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on June 5, 2016, after a courageous two-year battle with multiple health issues.
-Debbie grew up in Spirit Lake as the second youngest of 16 siblings. She attended school in the Lakeland School District where she was a "straight A" student. She married Lynn E. Bakie on Feb. 9, 1974, in Coeur d'Alene. They divorced in 1986; they had a son and daughter together. Debbie married James L. Tucker on June 27, 1992; they had a set of son and daughter twins together. Debbie was also stepmother to his four daughters. They divorced in 2005.
-In her younger years, Debbie enjoyed riding motorcycles and snowmobiles, boating and fishing with friends and family on Spirit Lake, and maintaining a beautiful yard with multiple flower gardens. During the summer months she enjoyed taking her children swimming. Debbie loved spending time with her mom, children, friends and family, especially with her sisters, Terrie, Raylene, Arles, Marles and Cindy. Debbie was also very close to her niece, Terrina. She loved watching her twins' sporting events and shared a very special bond with her son, Thomas. During Mom's last few weeks Aunt Terrie rarely left her side.
-Debbie enjoyed many hobbies including playing pinochle with friends, sewing and reading. She was also very talented at crochet. Throughout her life, Mom made many beautiful baby blankets, afghans, doilies, hats, gloves, slippers, Christmas stockings and pot holders that she loved to give to her friends and family. It made her feel very special to see her work displayed in her loved ones' homes. Mom was well-known for being a very kind and caring person; she never knew a stranger and was quick to forgive others. She had a quick wit and good sense of humor; even during her toughest days she still found a way to bring laughter and smiles to those around her. Mom handled unimaginable losses with admirable strength, grace and humility.
-Debbie is survived by her daughter, Casey (Curt) Hammond of Rathdrum, Idaho; son Eric (Elizabeth) Bakie of Star, Idaho; son Thomas Tucker and daughter Tamra Tucker, both of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; grandchildren: Brooke, Hunter, Emily and Abigail; stepdaughters: Jani Tucker, Sarah (Micah) Young, Kerry (Jason) Wiswall of Coeur d'Alene, and Jami Plant of Mill Creek, Wash.; brothers: Larry (Carolyn) Kunz of Spokane, Wash., Reuben Kunz of Coeur d'Alene, Marvin (Sylvia) Kunz of Beaverton, Ore., Elmer Kunz of Kent, Wash., and Edward (Barbara) Schafer of Lewiston, Mont.; sisters: Alice Cummins of Brennan, Wash., Jeanette (Jack) Blood of Spokane, Arles (Clyde) Tanner of Rathdrum, Cindy (Dick) Thorp and Raylene Smith of Coeur d'Alene, Terrie Carpenter of Blanchard, Idaho, and Marles (Rich) Stevens of Athol, Idaho; numerous friends, nieces, nephews, cousins; and step-grandchildren: Jaelyn, Wyatt, Charlotte, Cameron and Azrielle. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, father, and siblings Wally, Ray and Sally.
-A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden Lake, Idaho, with reception to follow.
-Debbie's final resting place will be Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene.
