She and her parents were born on Long Island.
Susan had been married previously to James H. Kolyer (b.c. 1824, died bef 1875?), and had at least three sons and a daughter by him:
- John Morrell (1846-1915)
- James H. (1848-1917?)
- Eliza Jane (1849, d bef 1888?)
- Fletcher H. (c1854-1933)
Fletcher and perhaps James may have been named after some of the Harper brothers of publishing fame, as the mother of those brothers was an Elizabeth Kolyer, and perhaps a great aunt to their father.
Eliza Jane is not mentioned in her mother's will. The will also states that Susan had no descendants of deceased children. An Eliza Jane Calyer had a girl with John Hultz in Brooklyn in 1867. Not sure if this is her.
