David was a farmer who owned land in Section 2, 4, 10, 11, & 16 of Richland township. By 1879 he had sold all of his farm and retired to the six acres he had originally settled on, in Section 4 of Richland township. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1819. At age 25 he came to Iowa and settled in Richland township.
When he was 21, he married Ann Marie Hittinger, 10 September 1840 in Pennsylvania. Parents of 10 children: Caroline, Eli, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, George; there were five others listed in the 1879 history as follows: three children living in Linn, County, Iowa, and two living in Emmett, County, Iowa. It was also noted that George stayed and took care of his parents.
