Samuel G. Irish was the son of Isaac C. Irish and Lucy Dodge. He served in Co. H., 21 Mass. Inf. during the Civil War and was promoted to Sgt, at age 19.

He married Maria Ann Eaton, daughter of Hiram Eaton and Sarah Jane Kendrick, on Aug. 6, 1867 in North Brookfield, MA. After the death of his first wife, he married Maria (Nichols) Morton.

Some of Samuel's descendants shortened their last name to Iris.
