Mr. Mitchell was born January 3, 1930 in Wynne, Arkansas. He was the son of Joe Mitchell and Clara Griffin Mitchell. Marcus had lived in Wynne and Memphis most all of his life and was retired from the railroad, Veteran of the Army, a 32 degree Mason at the Unity Lodge in Memphis and was a member of the Central Christian Church in Memphis.Mr. Mitchell married Katie Jo Reese in 1952 and she preceded him in death in 1997. He is survived by a brother, Tom Mitchell of Wynne; two granddaughters, Krissy and Karla Mitchell, both of Memphis; a grandson, Ken Mitchell of Memphis; a daughter-in-law, Tina Mitchell of Memphis. Four great-grandchildren also survive him, Noah Mitchell, Oscar Adams, Ivie Mitchell and Piper Adams. He was preceded in death by three sons Reese Mitchell, Scott Allen Mitchell and Marcus Mitchell Jr. and a sister Tolise Atkinson.Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 14, at 12 Noon at the Central Christian Church, 531 S. McLean Blvd., in Memphis, TN 38104. Visitation will be from 10-12 at the church before the service. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City, Arkansas.
