Funeral services for lifelong Weatherford resident Ernest Adler, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Zion Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Dave Blackmore and Rev. Harold Goldmann officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Ernest was born to Alexander and Anna (Hamburger) Adler in Weatherford, may 4, 1920 and died April 13 at home. He attended Enterprise rural school, then Weatherford High School, graduating in 1938. he then attended Southwestern Teachers College in Weatherford. On march 11, 1943, Ernest enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 16 months in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in New Guinea in the 3073rd until being discharged Feb 18, 1946.
Upon returning to Weatherford, he started farming and on Aug 22, 1953, he married Blossom Burch. Ernest was an active member of Zion Evangelical Free Church, having served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday School superintendent. Ernest served as a member of the Weatherford school board. Ernest enjoyed farming and visiting with friends and family. Memorials may be made to Zion Evangelical Free Church or a charity of choice.
Ernest is survived by his wife, blossom of the home in Weatherford, two sons, Jim Hawkins and wife Theresa of Rim rock, AZ., and Floyd Adler and Wife Talitha of Fort Smith, AR.; one daughter, Diane Logan and husband John of Woodward, four sisters, Elouise Britton of Oakley, Kan., Mildred Wood and husband A.G. of Sayre, Erma Carroll and husband Jack of Bradenton, Fla., and Joan Balkcom and husband Don of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters-in-law, Irene Adler of Weatherford and Fay Adler of Wichita , Kan., one brother –in-law, Maurice Switzer of Weatherford; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Walter, Rubin, Leroy and Wilber; and one sister, Marion Switzer.
