Ira was called "Art" and was the son of James Hugh & Alma Rachel (Sanders) Thayer, m. Nov 1918 to Alma Laprarie. Raised in Nebraska where he was a cowboy, going on cattle drives. He played the violin very well and played for dances with a band in Nebraska. There was always music in their home as several of the boys played guitar and sang, and his wife Alma had a nice alto voice and sang along with them.
