William Leslie was the son of Felix Leslie and Priscilla Tatum of Troup Co., GA. He moved to Henry Co.(later Houston), AL with his family. He joined the Confederate Army March 4, 1862, CO E. 41 Georgia Infantry. On Oct 8, 1862 he was promoted to 1st sergeant. In November 1862 he had been wounded in battle at Perryville, KY. July 4, 1863 he was captured at Vicksburg, MS and was considered a prisoner of war in the hands of United States Forces. By April 4, 1864 he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and was paid $80.00 a month. He surrendered at Greensboro, NC April 26, 1865. He returned home and became a successful Dry Goods Merchant. He died at age 36 in 1878. His widow managed a Hotel in Gordon. His daughter Norma Kate Leslie married Bethel Leonitis Cohron. William, his wife Virginia and daughter and son in law are at rest in Gordon Cemetery
