SFC (Ret.) Bland, son of the late Foster and Dora Effie Bland, was born November 9, 1926 in Benbush, West Virginia. At 18, after graduating from high school in 1944, he volunteered for the US Navy and WW II to be deployed to action in the Pacific Okinawa Theater. Post WW II he transferred to the US Army where he proudly served 25 more decorated years. His illustrious military service included duty in the Korean War, Vietnam War, ROTC Instructor University of Georgia, Military Advisor Vietnam, Instructor and Recruiter duty. He served with great honor and pride and retired his arms in April 1971. After his retirement, Mr. Bland worked briefly with the former Bickerstaff Clay Co., and retired from W. C. Bradley Co. He joined St. Anne's Catholic Church on May 18, 1975 and became an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles K. and June D. Bland. SFC (Ret.) Bland is survived by his loving wife of 68 years of marriage, Anna Marie Bland; children, Foster J. Bland (Sherlee) of Cataula, GA, Carl R. Bland, Jr. (Pamela) of Columbus, GA, James P. Bland (Shauna) of Ramona, CA; grandchildren, Jennifer Davis (Joey) of Cataula, GA, Jamie Barton (Mark) of Cataula, GA, Chelsea Pevitt (Zach) of Fortson, GA, Carl "Trey" R. Bland, III of Columbus, GA, Christy Smith of Columbus, GA, Chasity Hall of Phenix City, AL, Tae Griffin (Henry) of Salem, AL; great grandchildren, Emily and Mallory Davis, Madison Barton, Brandon and Bailee Hall, Noah, Presley and Kouper Griffin; and many other relatives and friends.
