Son of John W. and Nancy Jane Owens Adams

He was a very affectionate father and grandfather. And he knew the value of education. One thing Giles always did when it snowed was to take the mule and make a path so the children could walk to school.

Company E 179 Regt., Ohio Infantry, UNION

In his testimony for his brother, William J. Adams' pension application, he recalled how his brother almost died. "We were both members of Company E, 179th Regiment - Ohio Infantry Volunteers. In the month of March, 1865, while in camp near Nashville Tennessee, Wm. J. Adams, had an attack of Measles, which made him very sick. I nursed him all the time during his sickness. I thought it doubtful about his getting well, but he did recover. He complained ever afterward about his breast hurting. I think his health was impaired by that spell of Measles."
