Maxine was born on August 1, 1935 to Frank and Nannie (Reed) Barbee in Anton, Texas. Jesus called her home and she took His hand the morning of Thursday, June 9, 2016.
Maxine graduated from Anton High School. She married her true love and lifelong sweetheart Herb Lee Nelson, Jr. in Anton on March 2, 1956. Maxine was Herb's "yellow rose" and every year Herb gave Maxine a yellow rose on their anniversary. Maxine worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Coop in Levelland and in Whitharral for over 30 years. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Levelland for more than 50 years and loved her church family.
She enjoyed cooking for her family (especially cooking big breakfasts and baking desserts), spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sewing, fishing and camping, playing bingo, and going to the casino in Hobbs. She loved being around people and she loved to dance. She was dearly loved by all who knew her and she was the best 'Nana' anyone could ask for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life Herb, four brothers and one sister.
Maxine is survived by three daughters, Giovanna Lynne Isaacs and husband Tony of Brownfield; Sheryl Lee Russell and husband Ricky of Wolfforth; and Tracy Ann Davis of Lubbock; eight grandchildren (Ashley Martinez and husband Seth; Sheridan Aragon and husband Matt; David McDonnell and wife Spring; Kyle Isaacs; Stacy Hughes and husband Aaron; Justin Nelson; Holly Britten and husband Tyler; and Sarah Davis) twelve great-grandchildren (Benjamin Martinez, Liam Martinez, Abigail Martinez, Jace Martinez, Hadley Hughes, Harper Maxine Hughes, Keely McDonnell, Brody McDonnell, Keegan Nelson, Rhett Nelson, Madison Aragon, and Caleb Britten); two sisters, Twilight Billings and Nina Poston, and many nieces and nephews.
