Billy Paul Spencer passed away June 4, 2016, at his home in Vardaman, MS. He was born August 18, 1944, in Vardaman, MS.
He was a member of Vardaman First Baptist Church and the Men's III Sunday School Class. Before his retirement and illness, he was the owner of Southern Agri-Tire. He was active in civic affairs and as former mayor of Vardaman, he, along with others, was instrumental in having Vardaman recognized as "The Sweet Potato Capital" and in organizing the first Sweet Potato Festival. He loved his hometown, and no matter where he went, he shared his pride in his small town. He was a 32nd degree Mason, having recently been awarded his 50 year pin and he was a Shriner. He was a patriot who loved his country. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army's 25th.Infantry Division during Vietnam War for which he received a Bronze Star and Army Comendation Medal for Valor. He was an avid collector, story teller, and writer humorous experiences,and memoirs of his war experiences. His greatest joys were his children, grandchildren, and Spencer gatherings under the gazebo.
He is survived by a daughter, Candy (Les) Huffman of Vardaman, MS. and a son, Clay (Rachel) Spencer of Brandon, MS; their mother, Linda Spencer; his grandchildren; Blakely Denton, Sydney Huffman, and Bill Spencer; great grandchildren; Charli Grace Denton, and Presley Denton' a sister, Glenda Scarbrough of Vardaman, MS. nephews, Tommy (Karen)Scarbrough of Vardaman, MS; and John Scarbrough, of Southaven, MS; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents W.E. (Bill) Spencer and Clara Hawkins Spencer.
Services will be Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Vardaman First Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Rhodes and Rev. Mike Ramage officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Monday from 5 until 8:00 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman, MS.
Pallbearers will be: Mike Goralczyk, Jim Lloyd, M.B. Martin, Wilbur Holmes, Winfred Sanderson, Paul Lowe, Sonny Fugett, and Ira Berry.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Peggy Skinner, Doug Easley, James M. Casey, Lynn Casey, Jeff Hamilton, Jerry Hamilton, John Jasper Adams, and all Masons.
