Lillian Ann Miles, 90, of West Willington, and recently of South Windsor, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, (April 25, 2004). Along with her devoted husband of 62 years, Otis E. Miles, she was a long time resident of West Willington where she enjoyed making their home, kitchen, and gardens a joyful place for grandchildren, family visits, and special holidays. She was a proud cheerleader for the activities of her grandchildren, John and Chrissy Nafis. John will always remember Grandma as a great sport, enjoying the playful jokes he and his friend would devise as children. Chrissy will always remember that Grandma gave the best hugs. Born in Sweet Home, TX on May 15, 1913 she was the first child of Albina (Berkovsky) and Joseph Morris. She lived and worked in Texas until 1962, employed by various departments of the Civil Service. After locating to Connecticut with Otis she was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Hartford until her retirement. Lillian enjoyed nurturing and caring for the family pets - dogs, cats, birds, and a pet duck. Although she sought a peaceful country life, she savored the return trips to Texas as well as the worldwide trips she shared with Otis. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Joseph, who died in infancy, and Alphonse Morris, a soldier and casualty of World War II; and two sisters, Olga Kutach of Alvin, TX; and Virginia Brenek of Houston, TX. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Dave Nafis of South Windsor; her grandson and his wife, John and Nancy Nafis and their son, Benjamin Robert, of New Milford; her granddaughter, Chrissy Nafis of South Windsor; her sister, Estelle Jones of Corpus Christi, TX; a nephew, Edward Jones of Ingleside, TX; and four nieces, Paulette Adams of Pearland, TX; Nancy Cummings of Richardson, TX; Debbie Russell of Harrimon, TN; and Janelle Ash of Bellville, TX. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Lillian's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Connecticut, 96 Oak Street, Hartford, CT 06106 or to Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor, CT 06074. The funeral service will be held, Wednesday, 4:30 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, with the Rev. Mark B. Abernethy, officiating. Burial will be private in Willington Hill Cemetery, Willington. Her family will receive friends, Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home.
