Charles Stewart Vane-Tempest-Stewart, 6th Marquis of Londonderry was the son of George Henry Robert Charles William Vane-Tempest, 5th Marquis of Londonderry and Mary Cornelia Edwards.
He married Lady Theresa Susey Helen Chetwynd-Talbot, daughter of Charles John Chetwynd Chetwynd-Talbot, 19th Earl of Shrewsbury and Anna Theresa Cockerell, on 2 October 1875.
He was given the name of Charles Stewart Vane-Tempest at birth.
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for County Down between 1878 and 1884.
He succeeded to the title of 6th Viscount Castlereagh [I., 1795] on 6 November 1884. He succeeded to the title of 6th Earl of Londonderry [I., 1796] on 6 November 1884. He succeeded to the title of 6th Marquis of Londonderry [I., 1816] on 6 November 1884.
He succeeded to the title of 6th Baron Londonderry [I., 1789] on 6 November 1884. He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl Vane [U.K., 1823] on 6 November 1884.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baron Stewart of Stewart's Court and Ballylawn, co. On 3 August 1885 his name was legally changed to Charles Stewart Vane-Tempest-Stewart by Royal Licence.
