Son of Clarence and Ruth (Koehn) Jantzen.
Byron Royce Jantzen was born on February 26, 1948, to Clarence and Ruth Koehn Jantzen at Wichita, Kansas. He peacefully departed this life on November 16, 2011, in his home near Walker, Missouri, reaching the age of sixty-three years.
He answered the Savior's call at the age of thirteen, and Min. Tobe J. Koehn baptized him into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on April 12, 1961. This faith was precious to him throughout his life.
Dad grew up on a farm near Burns, Kansas. As a young man, he worked at trailer factories in Newton, Kansas. In 1969, he went to California to drive a truck for an uncle. On November 30, 1969, he married our mother, Edith Leatherman, at Livingston, California. This union was blessed with three daughters and one son. The first three months of their marriage were spent in California before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, where he did lawn care work. After living in Phoenix a year and a half, they moved back to Livingston, California. In July of 1978, they moved to the Walker, Missouri, community. As a boy of fourteen, he had become a lover of bees, which were a means of livelihood during much of his adult years.
Dad did not know a stranger and remained interested in people and life. He could strike up a conversation easily with a total stranger. Earthly riches were never a top priority with Dad. Dad was a man of prayer. We have precious memories of Dad praying for us as children, mentioning each of our names individually in prayer. At a young age, Dad was diagnosed with diabetes. During his life, he patiently endured the complications caused by this disease.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Edith; three daughters, Jannalee and husband, Jeff Williams, Rock Springs, Wyoming; Sharilyn and husband, Marvin Garrett, Nevada, Missouri; and Lilette, El Dorado Springs, Missouri; one son, Kendall and wife, Rose, Nevada, Missouri; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Delano and wife, Wendy, Peoria, Arizona; and Wendell and wife, Berlinda, Youngtown, Arizona; two sisters, Rita and husband, John Hochstetler, Macon, Mississippi; and Georgia and husband, Jake Hochstetler, Wiggings, Mississippi; a special friend and caretaker, Bobbie McIntire, and many relatives and friends.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held on November 19, 2011, at the Living Faith Mennonite Church, Walker, Missouri. Officiating ministers were L. John Becker, and Ron Koehn. Interment was in the Living Faith Mennonite Cemetery, Walker, Missouri, with Min. Milton Koehn officiating.
