Evelyn Naomi Lynn Newton, 92 , of Hildebran, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Hickory Falls Health and Rehab, following a period of declining health.
Evelyn was born on December 24, 1927 in Gaston County to the late Ollie Lynn and Kate Young Lynn. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church Hildebran and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker for her entire family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Arthur Newton Sr., a daughter Sherry Wilson and son in-law, Nolan Wilson.
Survivors include her son, Melvin Arthur, Jr. of Henry River; three grandchildren, Jeff Wilson of Icard, Eric Bradley Newton and wife Nicole of Hickory, and Anna Herrell and husband Cole of Hildebran. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Erin Newton, Jordan Newton, Katie Herrell, Nicklaus Newton, and Bryce Herrell, and her daughter in-law, Donna Newton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church Hildebran, with Rev. Ronald Arndt officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
