Robert (also known as Bob) was born August 26, 1926 in Upper Track, West Virginia. He was the son of the late William H. and Dessie Mae Kile.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Corean Kile of 50 years, as well as brothers, Vernon, Walter, Jessie, Oliver; a half brother Frank; a half sister Myrtle; and a special companion Bonnie Earman.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Deadrick, Wanda Messerley and husband, Jimmy, Helen Kimble and companion, Michael Whitmore, all of Harrisonburg. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Ruth Propst and husband, Jim of Rawley Springs, and Betty M Propst of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Kim Spencer and husband, Randy of Bridgewater, Tony Kimble and wife ,Lisa of New Jersey, Julie Deadrick and companion, Robbie Blosser of Broadway, Jill Brown and husband, David of Virginia Beach, and Kristine Henderson and husband, Jason of Dorset, England; and four great grandchildren, Addison Morris, Kiley and Gavin Kimble, and Lily Henderson.
Bob started working for Neilsen Construction Company in March of 1948. As a company superintendent, Bob worked on a variety of jobs from Eastern Mennonite's Campus Center to James Madison University's Fine Arts, Music, Library Edition and Education buildings. He also supervised the building of four dormitories on the JMU campus. He supervised many area projects such as Rockingham Hospital Emergency Outpatient Center, The Valley Wellness Center, as well as numerous others. Many projects took him outside Harrisonburg to oversee the building of schools in Woodstock, Front Royal, Staunton and surrounding areas. Bob had a strong work ethic. "The really important thing is to work hard at whatever you're in. Thats the thing that counts", he believed and lived by. In addition to managing a project, he did the manual labor alongside his workers. He stated many times that he learned a lot in the many years, before retiring in 1993 after having served over 45 years with Neilsen.
As a member of Muhlenburg Lutheran Church, he used his skills as a master carpenter to help keep the church in good repair.
A memorial service will be held at the Harrisonburg Kyger Funeral Home at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 12, 2016, with Pastor John Neff officiating. The family will receive friends at Robert's home immediately following the service on Sunday.
Burial will be private.
