Norman was born on April 27th, 1927 in Clarke County, Virginia to George D. Butler and Mary Forsythe Butler. He was the youngest of seven siblings: Preston Butler, Austin Butler, Sherwood Butler, Virginia Butler Berlein, Helen Butler Shifflett, and Lucille Butler Lowman.
Norman worked at Riverton Lime and Stone, with 43 years of service as a heavy equipment operator and certified blaster. After retiring, he focused on his farm and family. Norman was an avid outdoors man who could always be found hunting or fishing along the Shenandoah River when the weather allowed. Rainy days would find Norman in his shop creating wooden crafts or fishing nets, unless there was a John Wayne movie on.

A private burial will be held for family and close friends as Norman lays to rest with his faithful dogs.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Mary Etta Reid Butler, his daughter Linda M. Mann and husband Bobby, his son Norman “Ted” E. Butler, Jr. and wife Marlene, and his daughter Kelly M. Stevens. He is also survived by two grandchildren, George “Reid” Collins and Mary E. Christopher, one great granddaughter, Anna L. Christopher, and several nieces and nephews.
