Gene Ray Morgan

ROXANA - Gene Ray Morgan, 81, of Roxana passed away at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born December 28, 1934, in Sullivan County, Indiana, to Ray Pough and Carol (Dehart) Morgan. He married Jill Ann Titsworth August 1, 1954, in Roxana, Illinois. Gene was retired from the Roxana Park District after 27 years where he was Director of Maintenance. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army in Germany where he was a border guard on the Czechoslovakian border. Gene had an 83-acre farm that he really enjoyed, but building hot rods, drag racing pro stock and motorcycles was his passion. Gene continued to drag race until his motorcycle accident on the track in 2014. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild; as well as his dog and traveling the country with his wife, Jill, on their motorcycle. He served as a deacon at New Hope Baptist Church in Rosewood Heights as well as a board member on the Roxana Water Board. He is survived by a daughter, Jama (Kenny) McPeak of Roxana; a son, David Gene (Barbara) Morgan of Noblesville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Cassius, Jessica and Marissa Morgan, KaCee (Nick) Stewart, and Chase McPeak; one great-grandchild, Caige Stewart; two brothers, Macon (Mary) Morgan of Indiana and Dan Morgan of Ohio; special racing friend, Mike Sterling; and special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jill Morgan; parents and a grandson, Cameron Morgan. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until services begin at 12 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2016, at Paynic Home for Funerals. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church in Rosewood Heights.
