Deanna Mae Simpson, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, age 77, passed away on June 7, 2016 into the presence of her Lord and Savior. Deanna was born in Oklahoma City on May 18, 1939, to Clifford and Frances Colvin. The oldest of 4 daughters, Deanna cared deeply for her younger sisters. Deanna attended several schools throughout her childhood until her graduation from Putnam City Central High School.
When Deanna was a young adult, her mother, Frances, married Leo Evans. Leo, also known as Pop or Poppy to Deanna and her sisters, quickly became an important part of their lives. Later in life, Leo adopted Deanna and her sisters, legally becoming their Father which touched Deanna deeply.
Deanna married Floyd Lamont Simpson, Jr. on July 22, 1962, in Oklahoma City. Soon, they were busy enjoying life and raising their four daughters. A stay-at-home Mom for many years, Deanna began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone as the girls grew older. She worked there for several years, making life-long friendships while raising the girls.
As a Mother of 4, Deanna was an excellent cook and an even better baker! She took great pride in providing for her family, and as a Grandmother, she delighted in baking special treats for her Grandkids. She was crafty before it was a trend; sewing dresses for her girls and making things for her home. In her spare time, Deanna enjoyed cross-stitching as well.
Floyd and Deanna felt strongly about their faith, and they invested themselves in their church, Chisholm Heights Baptist Church, when they moved to Mustang in 1968. Deanna enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was also a nursery worker at CHBC for many years. Through church, many friendships were formed which have invaluably supported the family through the years and will uphold Floyd in the days and weeks to come.
After spending countless summers vacationing at the lake with their daughters, pitching a huge tent for many of those years, Deanna and Floyd decided to purchase an RV. After her retirement from Southwestern Bell, Deanna and Floyd traveled across the United States in their RV. From the beaches of South Florida, to Yellowstone to the mountains of Colorado and beyond, they enjoyed a more relaxed life.
Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Frances Evans and an infant daughter. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Floyd of the home; 4 daughters, Pamela Midgley of Tulsa, Leslie Vincent and husband Eric of Monument, CO, Andrea Green and husband Travis of Ellicott City, MD and Teresa Stark and her husband JR of Noble. Deanna is also survived by her 3 sisters, Jerry Rutledge of Topeka, KS, Evelyn Bowman of Midwest City and Faye Smalley of Earp, CA. Deanna is also survived by 13 grandchildren whom she adored, Taylor (Tara), Garrett (Jessica), Mary (Dan), Kyle, Hannah (Eric), Kamryn (Michael), Kaitlyn, Molly, Trevor, Rachel, Sara, Daniel, and Gracen. And by 5 great-grandchildren, Braylon, Connor, Colton, Hope and Ryan. Her absence will also be felt by many other relatives and countless friends.
Funeral services will be held 2pm on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Chisholm Heights Baptist Church of Mustang. Interment will follow in Mustang Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McNeil’s Funeral Service, Mustang, OK. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 2pm-8pm.
