Billie George Armstrong, 89, of Mansfield, died Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Liberty of Mansfield. Born February 22, 1927 in Mansfield, he was the son of Lloyd and Louise (Ryan) Armstrong.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II. He retired from Mets Auto Supply following 49 years of service where he was very well known and beloved by the community. His customers and friends knew him by his favorite phrase which was “Well, if I was doing any better, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself”. He was a very friendly and outgoing person and had a story or a joke for every situation. He collected die cast cars, enjoyed tinkering on his own cars and took pride in any task he did, always following the “proper” procedure with duct tape being his favorite “tool”. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time at the race way.

His family was most important to him and he welcomed each new in-law as though they were a part of the family. He especially enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Gale (Elaine) Armstrong, Keith (Bobbie) Armstrong, Barry (Debra) Armstrong, Brian (Luann) Armstrong and Cindy (Mike Greer) Edwards; grandchildren, Julie (Craig), Kyle and Tyler, Sean (Candy), Amanda (Ken), McKenna (Nate) Shara (Ryan), Ashley (Nathan), Andrew (Whitney) and Jayson and Hunter; great grandchildren, April, Anthony, Teagan, Liam, Julia, Mason, Easton, Brynn and Miller; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Cornell; and a brother-in-law, James Watt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Hilda (Watt) Armstrong; two children, Martin and Linda Armstrong; a granddaughter, Alicia; and four brothers, Richard, Norman, Ralph and David Armstrong.
