Billie L. Hines, Sr., 87, of East Moline, IL, died Friday, December 25, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center – Illini Campus, Silvis, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Alpha Baptist Church, 101 West D Street, Alpha, IL, where military honors will be conducted by the Orion American Legion Post 255 and the Sherman J. Sagadin VFW Post 143 in Orion. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the family. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Billie was born on March 31, 1928, in Council Bluffs, IA, the son of Carl and Bloosom Palmer Hines. He married Carol J. Smith on July 1, 1950, in Arkansas. They had 56 years together before her passing in 2007.

Billie was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He retired from Case IH East Moline, IL, in 1993.

Survivors include his children, Billie Hines, Jr., of Geneseo Donut, Gregory Hines, Coal Valley, IL, Karen (Mark) Martin, East Moline, IL, and Jeffrey Hines, Coal Valley, IL; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings, Gary (Ann) Hines, Omaha, NE, and Lynda (Jim) Uleman, Elkhorn, NE; many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much; numerous friends.

Billie had a special place in his heart for his niece, Jacque Knapp, with whom he conversed daily with. For the last year and a half, Betty Brown, whom he dearly loved, and had been a bright spot in Billie’s life and had not left his side since they met. She devoted herself to his care and the care of his beloved dog, Jazzy. The family is grateful to Betty and her loving family, who was there for both of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; sister, Carol Lorimer; special friend, Donna Schick, whose daughter, Colleen Scholz, became like a daughter to him.
