William was born September 22, 1923 in Greenwood, Mississippi, to Wall Ellerbe Harlan and Ola May Harlan (née Gamblin).
William is survived by his wife, Barbara Harlan; his brother, Edgar Harlan (Loretta); his daughters: Leslie C. Bourgoin (Michael), Mimi Harlan and Nancy E. Harlan; and son, William M. Weir (Meggan). William was previously married to E. Jean Weir.
William leaves five grandchildren: Duncan M. M. Bourgoin (Lizzy), Benjamin S. H. Bourgoin (Kristin), Sascha M. Zimmar, Matthew M. Weir, and Nellie E. Weir.
During WWII, William served as a B17 Navigator in the 8th Air Force, 100th Bomb Group ("the Bloody Hundredth", Square D, Thorpe Abbotts). He continued serving until 1966, when he retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He joined the Boeing Company and worked in a variety of assignments until 1985. He was a licensed electrical engineer. Always building and tinkering, William mastered woodworking, stained glass, and clock making. He was a good father, husband, grandfather, and friend.
A family ceremony will be held in August.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Veterans Service Office, American Legion Post 13, P.O. Box 376, Anacortes, WA 98221-0376.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.
