Beloved Mother of three; Anastasia (Ana), Alessandro (Alec), Luigi (Lou). Mary (her original birth certificate listed her name as ‘Marie’, which translated to Mary, in English) She was a hard working woman who, after being widowed with three young children at the age of 32, reared them on her own. A devout Catholic, and inspirational Grandmother, she was a strong, independent woman long before it became fashionable, and encouraged young women to stand up for themselves, as well. When asked why she hadn’t remarried, she would often say that her husband had been the ‘love of her life’ and ‘nobody else could measure up to him’ and that she ‘never wanted her children to be considered ‘baggage’ in a new family, if [she] had married again’.

She suffered significant health issues throughout her elder years, enjoyed crossword & other word puzzles, ‘To keep the mind sharp’, cannoli from Termini’s, Andes mints, and listening to at least two of her nine grandchildren play the piano. (I can’t speak for the others, but I do know she enjoyed listening to my next eldest sibling and I each play) She was a fascinating woman, with a bright mind, quick wit, and a great deal of practical knowledge to share, and I’m grateful to have known her. You’re still lived & missed, Gram
