Eleanor was born on November 2, 1918, in Mabel, Oregon, to John W. and Margaret E. (Nystrom) Baker. She resided in Toledo, Corvallis, Roseburg and Island City, Oregon. She graduated high school from Toledo, Oregon, in 1937. She married the love of her life, Alex Meyer.
Eleanor was a secretary for Harvard Avenue Medical Lab in Roseburg, OR. She enjoyed traveling and she and Alex visited more than two-dozen countries. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She received the Church of the Nazarene Distinguished Service Award, and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Appreciation for over 19 years of volunteer service. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Eleanor was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Eleanor is survived by her children Kathleen (Kay) Tindall (Les) of Eugene, OR, Sue Schmidt of Island City, OR, and John Meyer (Rae) of Beaverton, OR; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex; parents John and Margaret; brothers Bill Baker, Walter Baker and Lee Baker; sisters Gertrude Nelson, Viola Swisher, Marie Hamar and Florence Stowe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, in care of the La Grande Church of the Nazarene, 109 18th Street, La Grande, OR 97850.
