Joseph Hruska, 99, of 1410 S. Main St., Two Rivers (Hwy 147), passed
away peacefully at Hamilton Care in Two Rivers the morning of July 18
with his family at his side. He is survived by his devoted wife
Josephine (Josie) with whom he enjoyed 67 years of loving marriage. He
was the father of Sharon Hruska Oden (Robin) and Roy Hruska who preceded
him in 1984, and grandfather to Beau and Roy Oden. He was brother to
Marcella Nimmer (Glen) and the late Sylvia Albrecht (Tony). He is also
survived by sister-in-laws, Doris Glessner (Harold), Aggie Frank
(Delmar), Mamie Frunk (Norbert), and Frannie Strouf (Neal); he was
brother-in-law to Betty, Richard, Carl, and Hilbert Huss who predeceased
him.
Joseph was born near Stangelville, Wisconsin, to Sylvester and Antonie
Hruska and grew up on their family farm. His great passion and expertise
was automobiles, especially antique and classic cars; as a young man he
completed a course in auto mechanics in Columbus, Ohio. The during the
depression he worked in Tomah, Wisconsin, first harvesting moss and
cranberries and later as an auto mechanic. He served Stateside in the
U.S. Air Force in Cleveland, Ohio, during WWII.
He married Josie in 1946 and for the first 10 years they ran Riverside
Food Store side by side on Two Rivers east side. Then they built their
home south of Mishicot on Hwy 147 where Joe built and ran his used car
business until retiring at age 62. He led an active, healthy life, only
slowing down about a year ago; he was especially interested in natural
and alternative medicine and because of this was known by friends as
"Doctor Joe." Joseph was also the sought after family historian, with a
great memory for dates and events and stories that reached back to
previous generations. His warmth and humor will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends may call at Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home in
Mishicot after 10 am on Tuesday, July 22, with prayer service at 11 am.
