LOWELL KENYON GOOD, MD, 88, of Lakewood, Ohio, loving husband of 59 years to Marion (nee Long); father of Kathryn Ann Good of Herndon Virginia (Jawad Naciri of Arlington Virginia); William Kenyon Good (Stephanie Dreyfuss) of Portland, Oregon; and Amy Elizabeth Good (John Carmen) of Los Angeles, California; grandfather of seven: William Naciri, Jennifer Naciri, Samson Good, Maxwell Good, Charles Good, Xerxes Carmen and Zaz Carmen; brother of Anobel (Ann) Hansen and Lois Nan Zoll and the late John Cyrus Good, Lulu Kathryn Good, Daren Duane Good, Lucy Eleanor Maurer, and James Marion Good. Dr. Good passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016. Dr. Good was a graduate of Heidelberg University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Biology, in 1950. He pursued graduate education at Wayne State University in Detroit, receiving a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology and his MD degree in 1956. His rotating internship and pediatric residency were at MetroHealth Medical Center. Dr. Good was a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service from 1958-1960 and served as a Pediatric Research Associate in the Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. While there, he conducted basic immunological research on cystic fibrosis. He returned to Ohio in 1960, establishing a private practice in Family Medicine in Fostoria. Dr. Good also served as the School Physician for the Fostoria Public Schools, and the Medical Director and Staff Physician for The Good Shepherd Home for the aged and disabled. He was a clinical preceptor for medical students at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. After retiring from his practice in 1982, he worked in emergency medicine as a Physician, Medical Director, and Recruiter of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Good later became board certified in Addiction Medicine, working as director of the inpatient unit at Fostoria Community Hospital and as a staff physician at Glenbeigh Hospital in Cleveland. Dr. Good was a lifelong learner with interests in medical ethics, rheumatology, and gerontology. He studied medical ethics at Bowling Green State University and the Kennedy Institute of Medical Ethics at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He completed a Rheumatology Fellowship with the American Arthritis Foundation. Dr. Good had a passion for art, as well as medicine, and used the walls of his Fostoria office to convey his human concern for his patients through the paintings he displayed. He volunteered as a docent at the Cleveland Museum of Art for 17 years, retiring and receiving emeritus status in 2015. He was also a docent at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. In 2010-2011, Dr. Good served as an Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care in Hong Kong, China. While there, he created a medical course entitled "Art and the Art of Medicine," in which he used great art to help students understand patients' feelings during illness and to nurture compassion and empathy in the young physicians. Lowell was a downhill skier and a tennis player until his mid-eighties. He traveled extensively to nearly every continent. Other hobbies included swimming, hiking and collecting coins, shells, and stamps; his specialty was collecting stamps with images of shells from around the world. He volunteered on the Financial and Landscape Committees at Winton Place in Lakewood Ohio, where he lived. The Landscape Committee added many plants, evergreens, and flowering trees to the property. He belonged to the Fostoria Presbyterian Church and attended Rocky River Presbyterian Church, where he was active in Adult Sunday School and in the men's group. He supported Heidelberg University and belonged to masonic organizations.
