Barney William Schenebeck is the second child born to German immigrants, John Christian Schonebeck and Sophia Lena Schmidt. He lived his early years in Cook and Effington counties in Illinois. His father bought land and moved the family to central Arkansas where they farmed rice in Lonoke County. He married Kate W Garrison about 1885 based on the 1900 census record. Sometime between then and 1900, they had 2 children but both died young. His daughter, May (1893 - 1897) is also buried at Cottage Grove Cemetery, but there may be no headstone left standing. Barney was a farmer and cattleman in Bossier Parish, living at Antrim, an area just south of Plain Dealing, Louisiana. He had a saw mill 3 miles from Hughs Spur and was associated with the Antrim Lumber Company. He was a member of the Plain Dealing Masonic Lodge 237. He was granted a patent in 1903 for his improved balanced slide valve. He was very active and well liked in his community. In January of 1929, Barney because very ill and was under a doctor's care for chronic heart disease and interstitual sephritis until the time of his death. He was preceeded in death by his parents and I believe two brothers, Augustus "Gus" and Frank Schonebeck. He left behind his wife of over 40 years, Kate. He was also survived by 4 brothers (John, Henry, William, Herman) and 2 sisters (Caroline & Sophia), most who lived in Arkansas.
