Ashley Carol Johnson, 31, resident of Aurora, Colorado and a former resident of Las Cruces passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in Aurora.
A prayer vigil will begin at 6 o'clock Friday, June 10, 2016 at Baca's Funeral Home Chapel 811 S. Gold Avenue, Deming, New Mexico. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church 615 S. Copper St. Deming, NM with Fr. Ron Machado, Pastor officiating. Concluding services and Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
Ashley was born March 6, 1985 in Las Cruces, NM to Charles and Lezlie Johnson. She graduated from Mayfield High School and continued her education at New Mexico State University earning her Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. Ashley loved waters sports and worked for the City of Las Cruces as a Lifeguard for several years. She later moved to Aurora, Colorado where she was able to apply her special talents and share her passion for teaching in Denver Public Schools. Ashley enjoyed boxing and coaching many sports. Over her short career she developed a special bond with those around her and was admired and respected by her students, athletes, and colleagues. A very special person has left an imprint in the lives of all who were touched by her and will be missed by so many.
She is survived by her father Charles M. Johnson of San Tan Valley, AZ; mother and stepfather, Lezlie and Joseph Ziegenfuss of Las Cruces; brother, Mikael Johnson and his children, Jasmine, Star and Mikayla; her maternal grandmother, Carol Kipp of Deming; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and students. Ashley was preceded in death by her grandparents Carlos and Rosa Johnson, L.B. Cole and June Cole, Rex Kipp and cousin, Jason Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Charles Johnson, Jim Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Mike Johnson, Trent Johnson, Anthony Quintana, Mikael Johnson and David Johnson.
In lieu of flowers family requests that memorial contributions be made to El Maida Shrine Transportation Fund, 6331 Alabama Avenue, El Paso, TX, 79904.
