Danny Joe Todd, 68, of Rocky Point, NC, died Monday, June 6, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, Wilmington He was born in Loris, SC, on September 28, 1947 son of Mae Ellis Smith Todd and the late H. Daniel Todd. Danny was a 1966 graduate of New Hanover High School. He served in the United States Navy in the Mekong Delta, 1967-1971 in the ”Brown Water” Navy aboard the USS Satyr, a WWII- era LST used as a support craft for river patrol in Viet Nam. Danny was a Civil War buff and could be found examining Civil War battlefields on weekends, locating artifacts from that era, reading history books about the Civil War, and collecting maps and coins. Surviving in addition to his mother is his sister, Barbara Blanton (Tony); a brother, Michael Todd (Lisa); a special friend, Betty Crews; nephews, Tony Brigman (Dana), Chris Willoughby, Jackson Todd, Kevin Todd; and grandnieces, McKenna, Morgan and Maya Brigman, Isabella, Madelyn and Adrian Wilson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl Todd Willoughby, and a niece, Wendy Brigman Wilson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 10, 2016, at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 396 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, with military honors. Danny was a generous soul who liked to anonymously help family, friends, and strangers.
