Dolores Russell, a longtime resident of Solano County, passed away May 30, 2016, at her home in Fairfield. She was born Feb. 6, 1931, in San Francisco.
Dolores is a direct descendent of early American pioneer settlers in California. The family became well-known for growing wine grapes as well as a varietal of fruits throughout California. Dolores’ great uncle, John Reid Wolfskill, was the “father of Solano County’s orchards” and was the first non-native American settler in Solano County. Her great-grandfather, Mathias, left Missouri, arriving in California in the 1840s and eventually settling near Mankas Corner in 1866. Dolores was living on the land originally purchased by Mathias Wolfskill until her death.
Dolores has been involved in many civic-minded causes and has remained active over the years. She lived life on her own terms and left this life the way she would have wanted. Is there one word that could describe her? No, but the word “independent” comes to mind.
Dolores is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bill Paulson of Fairfield; her daughter-in-law, Shirley Russell; grandchildren, Kristie Paulson, April Russell-Harris, Kimberly Kent, Meredith Carter and Michael Paulson; great-grandchildren, Christopher McCollister, Chase Carter, Christian Paulson, Drew McCollister, Justin Paulson, Julianna Paulson, Cody Carter, Aiden Harris, Kara Kent and Kevin Kent; nephew, Bradley Wolfskill; niece, Renee Wolfskill; and many other members of the extended family.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence (Judge) and Lulu (Sister) Wolfskill; her brother, Joseph Wolfskill; her husband, Vernon (Ducky) Russell; her son, Richard Russell; her companion, Ken Kinnaman; and other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Dolores’ residence. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.bryanbraker.com.
