"Former State Senator Arthur Kennedy of Pennsylvania, a retired attorney living in Garden City, L.I. died here yesterday at the age of 78. He collapsed in the street. Mr. Kennedy had lived in Garden City for 17 years, making his home at 76 Brompton Road. He represented Pittsburgh in the Pennsylvania State Senate and lived in New York for a few years after coming here from that city. He was a Republican and a cousin of the late Secretary of State, Philander C. Knox. A native of Pittsburgh, he was a practicing attorney there for many years. He also held several important posts in leading mining companies. At one time he was a director of the Argonaut Consolidated Mining Company of New York and was also a former secretary treasurer and director of the White Knob Copper and Development Company, Limited. Mr.Kennedy, who was a close friend of the late, Andrew Carnegie, served on a commission that constructed the first Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh. He is survived by his widow, the former, Anne Listenberger; four daughters, Mrs. Larz Anderson, and the Misses Sally, Anne, and Phyllis Kennedy,and two sisters, Miss Tempe Kennedy of St. Petersburg and a married sister residing in England.
