Kenneth Daugherty, 89, of West Point died Friday July 5, 2013 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Services with military honors will be 11:00am Tuesday at Trinity Church with Reverend Les Parmenter and Reverend Chris Meier officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to West Point Sunshine Senior Center.

Kenneth Fred Daugherty was born November 24, 1923 in Spink County, SD to Fred and Irene (Carrington) Daugherty. Ken grew up on a farm near Wessington, SD, attended country school, and graduated from Wessington High School in 1941. He worked in the ship yards in Washington state prior to his military service. Ken joined the Army Air Corps in February 1943 and served in the European theater and Trinidad. Following his October 1946 discharge, he worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad until 1950.

On June 10, 1950, Ken married Betty Mae Janvrin at the Methodist Church in Hawarden, IA. Ken worked for Wayne County Public Power District in Wayne, NE for 13 years, became a salesman, and owned and operated B.J.'s Fashions in West Point until his retirement in 1984.

Ken served in the National Guard for 16 years, was active in scouting in Wayne and West Point as a Cub Scout Master, was a member of Trinity Church, and was involved with the West Point Chamber of Commerce. Ken was a member of VFW and took part in the Humble Heroes tour. His interests included boating and water sports, he was an avid card player, and he especially enjoyed playing Bridge.

Survivors include his wife Betty of West Point; sons Scott (Carolyn) Daugherty Klar of Pooler, GA, Kim (Nancy) Daugherty of West Point, and Fred (Tamra) Daugherty of Lincoln; sister Helen Hostvet of Luck, WI; brother-in-law Alton Goehring of Delmont, SD; sister-in-law Patsy Daugherty of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren Gayle Klar, Lynn Klar, Kim Jr. "Pete" (LaRissa) Daugherty, Brent (Mandi) Daugherty, and Garett, Emily, and Ryan Daugherty; great-grandchildren Rebecca, Kristina Anne, Brooklyn, Jolie, Elise, and Jameson. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; brother George Daugherty; brother David Daugherty and wife Maria; sisters Beulah Goehring and Dolores Johnson; brother-in-law Dale Hostvet.
