Cheryl Arlene Howard Ashwell, 77, of Huddleston, passed away Monday, October 30, 2006 at Oakwood Manor in the Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born August 12, 1929 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Claude Preston Howard and Tessie Mae Hogan Howard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Herman Ashwell and two brothers, Samuel Crawford Howard and Edward Rucker Howard. She was a member of the Huddleston United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, provided child care in her home and was an Avon representative for many years. Her hobby was quilting. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Darryl O. and Betty W. Ashwell, Goode; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy A. and Richard Creasy, Lisa A. and Donnie McKinney, all of Bedford; a brother, Frank O. Howard, Altavista; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, five greatgrandchildren. The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Leftwich Cemetery Fund, c/o Marie Creasey, 3629 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, Va. 24104. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. David Bayse and the Rev. Wayne Murphy. Interment will follow in the Leftwich Cemetery, Huddleston. Friends may call after 12 noon on Wednesday and the family will receive friend from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
