ELKHART - James W. Linn, 87, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Elkhart General Hospital.

Jim was born March 7, 1929, in Elkhart, Indiana, to the late James W. and Elsie I. (Ott) Linn. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Max Linn.

On November 23, 1950 in Elkhart, he married Patricia A. Nadolny. She survives along with their children: Rebecca (Leonard) Vervaet of Osceola, Roberta (Michael) Harding of Granger, Christine Slabaugh of Elkhart, Michelle (Dennis) Bueter of Elkhart, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Leslie of Osceola and John (Elaine) Linn of Granger; nineteen grandchildren: Stephanie Griman, Renee Hall, Ryan, Erin, Colin and Regan Harding, Nicholas, Jonathan and Gregory Slabaugh, Amanda Stoutenour, Matthew, Adam and Lauren Bueter, Michelle Mannia, Katheryne Pyfer, Michael Leslie, Madeline, Ava and Aidan Linn; nineteen great-grandchildren and one brother, Maurice (Norma) Linn of Michigan.

Jim was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. For all those who knew him, Jim was the model of a life well-lived. He was an inspiration and source of encouragement to his family and many friends. For over 30 years prior to his retirement, Jim was the owner of Harter Floor Care Supply, where he worked tirelessly to build a successful business. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Lodge, where he was in charge of the “Hoop Shoot” for over 30 years. A graduate of Elkhart High School, “Spin-it-in-Jim” was a standout athlete on the basketball team.

He also served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed playing golf. However, the things that meant the most to him were Sunday night dinners with his family and his weekly Friday gatherings with his friends, something that they have enjoyed since high school. He will be missed dearly and remembered lovingly.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Tuesday, June 7th from 4 to 8 at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home where a Vigil service will be held at 7:45 p.m. The family also will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 8th, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery with military honors.
