Dorothy Christina Leidel of Greenville, age 82, passed away Friday, June 3 at 7:34 p.m. in Memorial Hospital at Springfield.

Born March 19, 1934, Dorothy was the daughter of John I. and Anna A. Baumgartner.

She was born at the family home in St., Rose, Illinois. Dorothy was a 1952 graduate of Greenville High School. She married William Henry Leidel in Greenville on May 24, 1952 and they were married 55 years until his death in 2007.

She was also preceeded in death by her parents, sisters Bernadine Lauer, three-month-old Agnes Baumgartner, Marceline Huber and Mary Ann Jurgena, brother, John Baumgartner, six-year-old daughter Kathryn Jean Leidel, and son-in-law David Walker.

As a child, Dorothy Baumgartner, her parents and her siblings moved to Breese, Illinois and then moved to Greenville at age 13.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. After raising her family, Dorothy worked at Fair Oaks Nursing Home and the home health agency at the Bond County Health Department. At an early age, she was a pinsetter at the Breese bowling alley. She also worked at Dairy Haven in Greenville and was a babysitter and housecleaner for Susan Hoiles.

She loved children and was a volunteer at the Greenville Elementary School.

Dorothy's interests were bowling, watching high school and college basketball, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and Duke University basketball, growing flowers and playing games with her grandchildren. Her biggest interests were her family and Catholic faith.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Greenville with Father Paul Kala officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 6 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
