Joseph F. Sondgerath was the son of Peter and Catherine (Schmidt) Sondgerath. Joseph married Frances M. Hardebeck on April 7, 1937, at age 20, in Indiana.

Joseph F. Sondgerath, 55, of West Lafayette, a retired Fowler community farmer, died at 6 PM Sunday, Nov. 3, 1968, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, following an extended illness. He had been in the hospital a month. Born at Fowler, he was married to Frances Hardebeck, who survives.

Mr. Sondgerath had been a resident of West Lafayette for seven years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Lafayette, and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Surviving with his widow are three daughters, Mrs. Sharon Hutchison of West Lafayette, Mrs. Thomas Barrett of Lowell, and Carmen Sondgerath, at home; three sons, Dennis Sondgerath of Fowler, Van Sondgerath and Clifford Sondgerath, both at home; two brothers, Leo Sondgerath and Gerald Sondgerath, both of Fowler; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Klinker of Lafayette and Mrs. Grover Leuck of Fowler; and five grandchildren.
