Buster was born in Springdale to John and Mary Franks on Jan. 15, 1923. He graduated from Springdale High School in 1942. Highlighting his high school days was his participation in the school sports of baseball, basketball and football.
He enlisted in the Navy and left for San Diego, Calif., the day after graduation to begin a tour of duty during World War II.
He said, "I was given three choices of duty, and I checked Sea Duty, Sea Duty, Sea Duty and I got Sea Duty."
On June 11, 1949, he married Arvis Pihl in Deer Park, where they raised their children. He began employment at the Deer Park Pine Industries, which later became Potlatch Forests. When the mill closed in Deer Park, he transferred with Potlatch to Coeur d'Alene, where he retired in 1985. He spent the later years of his retirement woodworking and officially retired from his hobby career at age 90.
Buster was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and great grandfather and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was very proud of his family and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by one son, Larry, in 1961; his mother and father; four brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Arvis; four sons and one daughter; Gary (Aleta) of Green Lake, Thomas (Debra) of Bellingham, Susan (Dan) of Portland, Ore., Steven (Marla) of Lakewood, Calif., and Bill (Joyce) of Everett; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Arvis, would like to give special thanks to the Home Health Care for their kindnesses shown to Buster in the past months and the Providence Hospice of Everett.
Buster loved being outdoors and going to the mountains to cut cord wood and pick huckleberries. Nothing gave him more joy than being with his family and friends.
At his 90th birthday celebration, he surprised everyone by wishing to address all in attendance. He acknowledged that he had reached a milestone in good health and thanked everyone as he knew he had not gotten there alone. He was a wise man.
Graveside Memorial services will be held Monday, July 25, 2016, at the Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park.
