MISHICOT AND TWO RIVERS MEN ARE VICTIMS
H. Flentje, Mishicot, Hit By Unkown Hunter- Alex Jacobson,
Former Two Riversite Killed
Two Manitowoc count men are among the first victims of the deer hunting
season in Wisconsin, dispatches today reporting the fatal injury of Henry
Flentje, 43, of Mishicot, near Mercer, Wis., and messages having been
received of the death of Alexander Jacobson, 30, of Rice Lake, former Two
Rivers resident who was killed by a stray bullet Monday.
Mr. Jacobson, who was a nephew of Mrs. George Peterick of Shoto, was the
first victim of the deer hunting season in the state. First news of the
tragedy came to relatives in this county, in publication of Associated
Press dispatches in the Herald-News Monday night, and reports were later
confirmed in telephone messages received from Rice Lake by Mrs. Peterick.
Formerly Operated Dray Line
Henry Flentje of Mishicot, formerly employed at Plant No. 4 of the Aluminum
Goods Co. at Two Rivers and who at one time operated a dray line between Two
Rivers and Mishicot, has been a resident of Mishicot for practically all of
his life. He was mortally wounded when he was shot through the head by an
unknown hunter on a deer trail at Rice Lake, near Mercer, in Vilas county
late yesterday afternoon. With Mr. Flentje at the time were his son, Howard,
and two other men.
No trace of the man who fired the shot has been found, according to Associated
Press messages which were received at Manitowoc this morning.
Mr. Flentje left with a party of local hunters for the deer country on the
last day of November and expected to return to his home at Mishicot sometime
this week.
Born at Mishicot
He was born in the town of Mishicot on May 28, 1885 and with the exception
of several years spent at Racine lived in the township all of his lifetime.
For the past number of years, he was a buffer at the Two Rivers plant of the
Goods company.
In addition to his aged father, Charles Flentje, now a resident of Green Bay,
he is survived by his widow, two children, Eveleyn and Howard, at home, two
brothers, Edward at Mishicot and Charles at Cavoer, Wisconsin, four sisters,
Mrs. Herman Wicke, Mrs. Norman Thompson, Mrs. Wenzel Urbanek and Mrs. Tracy
Thompson, all of Manitowoc.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed, the family receiving only the
most minute details of the accident….

FATALITIES IN NORTH WOODS
....Henry Flenje of Mishicot was killed by a bullet that left the barrel of
a gun at quite some distance away. The shot may have been fired into the air,
as explained above, or someone may have been shooting at deer on a hill, in
which case the bullet would travel quite some distance without encountering
anything to stop it. In a case of that kind the deplorable shooting of a man
can be termed unavoidable accident, and in the sad death of Mr. Flentje, it
probably will never be learned who fired the fatal shot.
